They Saw the God of Israel

9 Then Moses went up with Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and 70 of Israel’s elders, 10 and they saw the God of Israel. Beneath His feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire stone, as clear as the sky itself. 11 God did not harm the Israelite nobles; they saw Him, and they ate and drank.  Exodus 24:9-11

I find it amazing that the Israelite nobels saw the God of Israel right along with Moses, and yet built an idol a few days later and forsook Him! They were not harmed by God, in fact they ate and drank with Him (vers 11)! How soon they forgot God! How quickly they fell away! They literally had a mountain-top experience with God, and then they fell deep into sin.

It is a warning to us all. We can experience the truth of God for a moment, and then ignore Him and go right into sin! He reveals Himself to us in various ways – ways that each of us will understand – and then we are responsible before Him to follow His ways! He meets us where we are so that we can truly comprehend the truth. He is the best teacher! He is able to reach each of us in our understanding wherever we are. But we must be careful not to forget, not to fall away, not to let down our guard!

Our challenge today: Remember God, the Lord Jesus Christ, to follow Him!
