Are You Good Looking?
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity. 28 In the same way, on the outside you seem righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.“ Matthew 23:27-28
Our Lord was railing against the religious leaders of the day about their lives. These leaders were very religious – but they were far from God. They were the same ones that knowingly rejected our Savior and Lord as their Messiah. They recognized Him, but they didn’t want their lives to change. They were slaves to Rome, but they had gotten used to their situation and even got to like it. In fact their entire livelihood was because of Rome and the relationship that they had. So they didn’t want to become free – they would lose all they had worked for!
Are we not the same? We each have our “pet sins” that we do not want to give up. We have a home, a job, a bank account, a family, a circle of friends, favorite activities, etc. etc. that we enjoy and do not want to give up. We go to church, claim to love Jesus, say to folks that we are Christians – yet we are nothing but empty husks that are good looking. Jesus said “on the outside you seem righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.” Ouch!
Are we just “good looking” or do we have the Savior on the inside of our lives, guiding us to TRUE righteousness! Do we just go through the motions of our lives refusing the let the Savior BE our Messiah, or are we fully surrendered to Him to guide our lives every day? Are we willing to sacrifice anything HE wants us to? Are we willing to give up ALL for Him?
Our challenge for today: Quite being just “good looking” and start “looking good” on the inside for Jesus Christ!
