Executed!!!!
2 For six days work is to be done, but on the seventh day you are to have a holy day, a Sabbath (B) of complete rest to the LORD. Anyone who does work on it must be executed. Exodus 35:2 HCSB
Wow. God was serious about His Sabbath Day of Rest! If you did NOT observe the Sabbath properly, you were to be EXECUTED! Imagine today in the USA if we were to enforce that law! We’d lose most of our people on the first weekend! We explain it away saying things like “that’s the Old Testament” and we don’t need to heed it, or “we are not under law, but under grace” as an excuse.
Think about it, for a moment. Do you think that God has changed His mind? Has God become someone else? When Jesus died and rose again presenting the ultimate sacrifice for our sins to the Father in heaven, do you think that God said, “Ok! Now, I am going to change the way I think! I will be a different God. I don’t care about the Sabbath anymore! I don’t care about the 10 commandments anymore! Holiness and obedience are not longer my WAY of doing things!”
I don’t think so.
God is the “same, yesterday, today, and forever” the Bible says. I suspect that His Grace is keeping us alive, not His preferences. I suspect that we should be a LOT DIFFERENT in the way that we behave towards His laws and commands for us. I suspect that we should reconsider our doctrine and subsequent actions about the Sabbath, as Christians! You better believe that Jesus observed the Sabbath when HE was on the earth! Maybe we should too!
