God’s Expectations
46 Then an argument started among them about who would be the greatest of them. 47 But Jesus, knowing the thoughts of their hearts, took a little child and had him stand next to Him. 48 He told them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in My name welcomes Me. And whoever welcomes Me welcomes Him who sent Me. For whoever is least among you—this one is great.” Luke 9:46-48 HCSB
Isn’t it just like us to argue over who is the best? Don’t we always push our own rights in a situation? Isn’t it easy to blame the other guy for the mistake? Don’t we rail on the other drivers for being so wrong? Isn’t our ideas of how to do things better than everyone else’s? This entire notion of just who is the best, the greatest, the most correct, etc. etc. is rampant human nature – i.e. SIN! It is nothing less than selfishness. It is the exact same sin that brought Lucifer’s downfall and Satan emerged! When we behave that way, we are emulating satan’s notions of appropriate behavior!
We should listen to our Lord when He tells us to be the least! We should embrace the priorities of others ahead of ourselves! We should acknowledge their rights over our own! Let the other person win! Take the lowest, most humble seat without display. Strive to be anonymous and forgotten in our pursuits of obedience to God’s Will and commands for our lives! Then, we can enjoy God’s true favor!
