Keep Asking

8 I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs. 9 “So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:8-9

When we go to our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in prayer asking Him for something, often we wait a few days and assume that His answer is “no.” Well Jesus, in this passage, spells out clearly the method He setup for a successful answered prayer. My suggestion is for you to read the entire passage to get the whole story. The point Jesus is making is all about persistence in prayer. If we petition Him for something once and stop, then we are not serious about needing the answer. You may want to argue with me about that statement, but the Word is clear! God answers persistent prayer! Yes, our hearts need to be right with God for answered prayer! Yes, we need to already be born-again for answered prayer! Yes, we need to have a mind that is in accord with God’s way of thinking for answered prayer. BUT — if we REALLY want to move heaven, we must never give up in our prayer life!

Example: My mother prayed for a neighbor for decades that she would be saved. Mom developed (deliberately) a friendship with her, spent time with her, and prayed daily for her for years. It was the last week of this lady’s life that she surrendered to the Lord Jesus for salvation. What would have happened to her if mom had NOT prayed daily for her? I am not sure, but I suspect she might be in hell today if it wasn’t for mom’s persistent prayers.

Don’t stop praying! Pray THROUGH!
