Who Really Counts the Cost?
“Or what king, going to war against another king, will not first sit down and decide if he is able with 10,000 to oppose the one who comes against him with 20,000? If not, while the other is still far off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not say good-bye to all his possessions [Or does not renounce or leave] cannot be My disciple.” Luke 14:31-33 HCSB
We all read this portion of Scripture and immediately discount the severity of its content, and “tone it down” in our minds – and as a result our lives are not what they should be before the Lord. I cannot count the number of times that I’ve heard preachers say from the pulpit that we are not expected to actually give up everything that we own for the Lord. That, my friends, is a direct contradiction to the Bible.
I am not saying that I like this, nor that I have been able to actually do this. But God expects it of us. We should count this as a cost, and weigh it against the ramifications of serving God! What is the rate of return? Heaven! No contest, then.
