Watch Your Life
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36 NKJV
Jesus had been prophesying about the end times and what to expect. Then He gives this warning to us. One of the dangers is carousing – similar to partying. This is a lifestyle choice that is more prevalent today than at any other time in history, except maybe just before the flood when God wiped out all of mankind except for Noah and his family. This is a very serious problem, and Jesus said that it was so bad it would make us unworthy of the escape, and we would not be ready for His return! We would be left behind!
Another problem he stated was drunkenness. I think alcohol is very dangerous and should obviously be avoided. However, I also believe that Jesus was, again, talking about a state of mind that affects a person’s lifestyle. Over-indulgence in the things of life that change your thinking. Drugs, alcohol, etc., there is many ways that we can lose our minds. When we do, we also loose our hearts, and we are again unprepared for Jesus’ return!
The third thing Jesus warned us against was the ‘cares of this life.’ This is probably the most dangerous of all – especially to those that are Christians! We tend to ignore the fact that being too busy, and too caught-up with our lives is bad! In fact, we will put aside church events for our life schedules in a heart-beat without a second thought. If we make it to church once a month, we feel we are doing well! My friends, going to church is a mandate from God! But it is only one part of how we should live our lives. Our schedules should revolve around Jesus, and His Great Commission to us all – to go into all the world and preach the gospel, teach the people, and bring them into saving relationship with Him! If we are not doing this, we are ALSO in danger of missing His return! OUR relationship may be a sham!
GO to GOD TODAY! Make SURE you are ready for Jesus’ return!
